Union Home Minister Amit Shah issued a bold challenge to the opposition, asserting that even the return of Rahul Gandhi's grandmother to earth couldn't revoke the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Speaking at a rally in Lakhimpur Kheri, Shah targeted opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, emphasizing their stance against the CAA. Shah reaffirmed the government's commitment to granting citizenship to minorities from Pakistan and Bangladesh under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.

The implementation of the CAA by the BJP-led Central government in March facilitated easier citizenship for non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who entered India before December 31. Opposition criticism of the Act centered on claims of unconstitutionality, discrimination, and violation of secular principles. Additionally, Shah warned of potential obstructionism from the opposition, suggesting that they would hinder progress on issues like the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, symbolized by Shah's reference to a hypothetical "Babri lock" should they come to power.
